A trend that started in the South is now hitting Northeast Ohio: insurance companies are canceling homeowners’ policies based on drone and satellite images of roofs.

Recently, a Northfield, Ohio, couple received this letter from a popular national insurance carrier:

What we found: Risk is ineligible due to dwelling roof in poor condition based on aerial imagery taken within the past 12 months.

What you need to do: Repair or replace your roof and provide documentation before June 23, 2025, or risk non-renewal of your policy.

Concerned, the homeowners hired a professional roofing company, which confirmed there was no damage. Despite this, the insurance company canceled their policy anyway.

Why Is This Happening?
